SY-77 vs SY-99: The SY-77 features a smaller wavetable, no sample import (только rom-память) and different sound fx engine
TG77/SY77 vs SY99: added samples (77:rom, 99:ram), designing your own algorithms and up to 3 feedbacks and nice spx- like FX (spx1000 x2 on the SY99)
TG77/SY77 vs SY99: FM is the same, but AWM & FX are different. TG77 together w/ TG500 nails SY99 and goes beyond, AWM and polyphony wise. But TG77 leaves the unit w/ the SPX90-based FX. The TG500 is a great machine and much underrated. You can do killer sounds w/ it if programmed right, then layer the TG77 FM,- and the TG500 comes w/ the SPX900 FX.
If you have the TG500 in addition to the SY77 / TG77,- you have all the samples you find in a SY99 and more samples you don´t find in either the SY/TG77 or SY99. In fact, you cannot use the TG500 samples to modulate FM in a SY/TG77 so you´re stuck w/ the SY/TG77 samples for that purpose,- but you can create all the sounds of the SY99 which rely on FM w/ layered sample voices.
SY77/SY99/TG77? The SY77 has only 4 Mb ROM. The SY99 has the double ROM size with 8 Mb and offers the better AWM2 samples with more detailed quality. It also has an ability to load custom samples into ram memory - но для TG77 тоже можно купить внешнюю
MCD64 ram-карту (64Mb), а также расширенную
SECTOR101 WaveBlade ram-карту, в которой можно записать до 16 MCD cards (16x64Mb).
Yamaha SY77 vs SY99: As the service manuals and schematics show completely unambiguously, the SY77, TG77, and SY99 use exactly the same FM chips, exactly the same AWM chips in which the filtering is done, and exactly the same DACs.
The only thing different in the signal path between the SY77, TG77, and SY99 are the effects, as can once again be verified by looking at the schematics, and which can be totally bypassed anyway. Also, the ROM-borne samples were definitely changed in the SY99:
TG77 ROM: 4MB (112 waveforms), and
SY99 ROM: 8MB (267 waveforms)
